Got laid off 6 weeks after I turned down the $12k counter offer, and now I'm second guessing everything
So back in March my company in Austin offered me a raise to stay when I said I was looking around, and I turned it down because the new place promised me a title bump and remote work. Fast forward to last month and the new company did a round of cuts, 14 people gone, and I was one of them because I was the newest hire on the team. I sat in my car in the parking garage for like 20 minutes just staring at the severance packet wondering if I played it wrong. Here is the part that stings: the old job posted my exact role again two weeks later at a higher salary than what they offered me. I have been applying nonstop for 18 days now and gotten 3 callbacks and 1 rejection email that came at 2am. If anyone has been through the whole 'left for a better offer and it blew up in your face' deal, how did you explain the short stint without sounding like a flight risk?
