Found a simple hack to avoid rambling in job interviews
Last week I started recording myself on my phone answering common interview questions and realized I was going off topic for two minutes straight before getting to my point. Has anyone else tried reviewing their own answers before the real deal and noticed the same thing?

Honestly, I did the exact same thing and it was brutal to watch back. I literally caught myself telling the interviewer about my dog's vet visit before I even answered the question.

No way, the dog's vet visit BEFORE the actual answer! That's wild. I would have been mortified watching myself ramble about that. It's like your brain just hit a wall and scrambled for any safe topic. Did you at least catch it in the moment or only when you reviewed the footage? That has to be one of those things you laugh about later but cringe through first.

Oh man, the ramble is real! I think there's something about being on camera that just short-circuits your brain. Like your mouth keeps running because your brain is screaming "SAY WORDS" but the actual content part of your brain is just showing a blank white screen. The vet story probably felt so normal in the moment but watching it back is like seeing yourself in a nightmare where you can't stop talking about cat food prices. I bet half the people who watch their interview footage just sit there with their face in their hands the whole time.
