Working in a new subdivision near Austin and the fiber installs are all surface mount
Every house has the ONT and battery backup mounted right on the living room wall, not tucked away in a closet. Do you think this is the new standard builders are pushing for?

Austin builders are just being lazy, it's not some new standard lol.

Probably just cheaper for them to install it that way.

Saw a local news segment last year where a builder said it saves about $150 per unit on plumbing runs. Jamie_white is right, it's totally a cost thing.
