Warning: cheap toner got me on a $210 ladder call in Phoenix

Last month I picked up this generic toner from an online auction for $12, thought I was saving big. First job in Surprise, it kept giving me a faint signal on two different drops, so I climbed up thinking it was the tap. Nope, it was the toner being trash, wasted 2 hours and had to reschedule the actual fix. Has anyone else had luck with cheaper toners or am I sticking to the name brands from now on?
