Walked past a new apartment complex in Phoenix and saw zero cable conduits, two installers weigh in
I was in Phoenix last week doing a job at a complex that just opened 4 months ago and I swear there were no cable conduits in the riser closets. Had to run coax through the hallway ceiling on 3 floors and the property manager acted like I was the problem. Now I'm stuck between two sides. One guy on my crew says builders are cutting corners to save $200 a unit and we just eat the labor cost. The other guy says we should just drill exterior walls and stop wasting time on management. So which is it: push back on cheap builders or just get done and move on? What do you all do when a brand new building has no pathway?
Wait, you're telling me a building that opened 4 months ago has zero cable pathways in the riser closets? That's not cutting corners, that's skipping the whole wall. I've been doing this a while and I still can't wrap my head around how a place passes inspection with no conduit for low voltage at all. Somebody signed off on those plans and somebody built it, so how does that even happen? Running coax through a hallway ceiling on three floors is a mess you should never have to deal with in a new build. Sounds like the builder counted on guys like you just working around it instead of making noise. If it were me I'd be asking the city inspector some hard questions.
