Thought those cheap crimpers from the supply house were junk, then a guy in Tulsa proved me wrong
I always figured the $18 crimpers were a waste and stuck with my old set that cost me $70 back in 2019. Last week my regular ones died mid job in Tulsa and the only spare in the truck was a cheap pair a helper left behind, so I used them out of desperation. They bit cleaner on RG6 than my expensive ones ever did, and I ended up doing 22 drops with them without a single bad connector. Now I'm wondering if I just got lucky or if the price tag never really meant anything, anyone else been surprised by the cheap stuff?
Getting one good run out of a cheap tool does not mean much on its own, since a lot of them work fine for a week then start slipping once the dies wear down. Your expensive set lasted six years of hard use, and that cheap pair has done 22 drops, so the real test is still ahead of you. Come back after a few hundred connectors and tell us if they still bite clean.
