Talking to a firefighter about our old coax runs
Had a beer with a buddy who works for the city fire department. He said they hate finding old, unlabeled cable bundles in walls during a call. Slows them down big time. Made me think about all the houses I wired back in 2012. Never labeled anything. Now I spend 10 minutes with a sharpie on every job. Marking every line. Anyone else start doing this after a chat with another trade?

Ever wonder if the fire guys keep a mental list of the worst offenders? Like, do they get back to the station and say "that was a Wilson house, full of mystery spaghetti"?

My buddy's place in Oakwood had a small kitchen fire last year. The captain apparently told him straight up they'd been to his building three times that month for the same stupid reason, blocked dryer vents. They definitely keep track. He said the guy sounded more tired than angry, like it was just another day of dealing with the same avoidable mess. Makes you realize they see all the repeat mistakes we never hear about.

They probably do keep a list, or at least a grudge. My buddy mentioned they sometimes have to cut everything just to be safe, and then you're left with a huge repair bill. It's not just about being tidy, it's about keeping people safe when seconds count. Makes that sharpie feel pretty important.
