A guy at the supply house in Mesa talked me into a fancy toner probe with all these bells and whistles, swore it would save me hours on every job. Used it on maybe three calls before I figured out it wasn't reading any better than the cheap one I'd been carrying for two years. The kicker is I lost a half day on a job in Tempe because I trusted the new probe over my own ears and kept chasing a tone that wasn't there. It's sitting in my van now collecting dust. Anyone else ever got talked into a tool that turned out to be a step sideways instead of forward?
