Pro tip: Fiber jobs need a clean workspace, not a messy truck bed.
Last week I saw a guy trying to splice fiber optic cable in his truck bed with dirt all over. The connection failed twice before he gave up. I always lay out a clean mat and keep my tools in order. It takes a minute but saves me hours on callbacks. If you're still setting up in a mess, you're making things hard for yourself. I learned this after a bad install where dust got into the connectors. Now I won't even start without a tidy area. It's simple but makes a huge difference.

Actually, that perfect clean room setup sounds great in theory but ignores real job sites. Sometimes you're in a muddy yard or a dusty attic with no space for a mat. Wind blows stuff around no matter what you do. A good tech can make a solid splice in less than ideal conditions if they know how to manage the environment. I've done plenty of reliable work out of a truck bed by just being careful and keeping connectors capped until the last second. Waiting for perfect conditions just means the customer waits longer.

Read somewhere about techs using portable tents.
