Old lady in Toledo taught me more than my foreman did

Had a call last Tuesday at a ranch house on the west side of Toledo. Signal kept dropping on the main TV, checked all my fittings and the drop, everything looked fine. The homeowner, probably 80 years old, comes out and says 'young man, check the splitter behind the bookshelf.' I pulled it and sure enough, the barrel was corroded from an old water leak. She said her husband installed cable in the 70s and taught her that. I spent 20 minutes chasing my tail and she solved it in five seconds. Anyone else had a customer who knew more than they let on?

Every customer thinks they're an expert after one YouTube video, and that old lady just got lucky with a guess. Corroded splitters are common enough that anyone could stumble on it, especially someone who's lived in the same house for decades. Your foreman probably sees ten of those calls a week, so chalk it up to a broken clock being right twice a day.
