My coax stripper died on a 3-story drop in Phoenix and I finished the job with a box cutter
Halfway through a 6 outlet install in Phoenix my coax stripper just snapped at the blade housing. I was on the second floor, 94 degrees out, and the homeowner was watching me the whole time from the patio. I had no backup in the van and the shop is 40 minutes away, so I stripped the next 4 fittings by hand with a box cutter and a lighter. Got the braid folded back clean on all of them and the signal tested fine at every jack, but my thumb was wrecked by the end. Now I keep two strippers in the bag, one in the pouch and a cheap spare buried in the side pocket. What is your go-to backup tool that has saved a job for you when something quit mid-install?
Did the same thing with a compression tool on a 12 unit apartment in Mesa last summer, crimper jaw cracked on the third floor with no backup. Finished six more terminations with a pair of channel locks and a flathead, and the tester came back clean on all of them. Now I carry a little 5 dollar crimp ring tool in the bottom of the bag, it's not pretty but it has bailed me out twice since.
