I finally gave the ER11 collet set a real shot after 4 years of avoiding it
Always thought the 3-jaw chuck was fine for everything until a job in Glendale needed 15 quick size swaps in an hour. Switched over on a Tuesday and honestly the runout difference on the 1/4 bit was spot on. Anyone else stubborn about collets and then got converted?

Fifteen swaps in an HOUR, that is insane. I would have lost my mind with a 3-jaw by the third one. That runout difference is what finally got me too, once you see it you can't unsee it.

Runout was the big one for me too, but actually the 3-jaw gets a bad rap sometimes. If you clock it the same way every time with the same pinion gear, you can get it pretty repeatable. The trick is marking your chuck positions and not just slapping it on however. Fifteen swaps though, that shows real patience. Most people would have given up by number five and just dealt with the wobble.
