I finally figured out why my coax connectors kept failing after a storm last month

Was on a roof in Austin during a downpour and noticed the compression tool I've been using for 5 years leaves tiny gaps when the cable isn't perfectly straight. Switched to a different brand of connector and haven't had a single callback since. Anyone else run into this with cheaper connectors?

Wait, a tiny gap from the angle of the cable? That's wild. I've been using the same cheap connectors for years and never thought to check that.

Right, because who doesn't love finding out their five year old tool is secretly a water-wicking device every time it rains. I bet the cable company loves that you only figured this out after a storm, not during the dry spell when it would have been a five minute fix. It's like all those connectors just decided to hold a tiny pool party right at the weak point. Guess I need to go stare at my own crimping technique with a magnifying glass now.

That tiny gap thing sounds specific though, were you using compression or crimp connectors?
