Had a customer in Springfield who asked me to run a line through his finished basement ceiling.

He said, 'Just drill a hole and fish it, right?' I had to explain the whole process of finding studs, avoiding pipes, and using glow rods. He ended up helping me for an hour and said he had no idea our job was that tricky. Anyone else get customers who think it's way simpler than it is?

Come on, sometimes it IS that simple. I've done plenty of jobs where you pop a tile, find a clear path, and fish it in ten minutes. People watch a video and get the basic idea. The problem is when we make it sound like brain surgery every single time. Sure, some basements are a nightmare, but not all of them. Acting like every wall is a mystery box just makes us look like we're trying to justify the bill.

My last "easy" basement job turned into a three hour hunt for a pipe hidden behind a brick column the old owners never mentioned. Honestly, I looked like a complete idiot crawling around with my fish tape. Tbh we probably do make it sound harder than it needs to be sometimes, just to cover our own butts when things go sideways. Ngl, Derek's right that it can be simple, but my luck says the minute I promise that, the house fights back.

Trust me, the easy jobs are the ones that never get posted about online.
