Got called out for a 'bad install' that was actually the customer's cat

Last week in Springfield, I ran a new line for a family's living room. The signal was perfect when I left. Got a call the next day saying the picture kept cutting out, and the dad was mad, saying I must have done a sloppy job. Went back, checked everything, and finally found the coax behind the TV had tiny bite marks all over it. Their new kitten had been chewing on it. Had to replace a 15-foot section and put it in a protective sleeve. Anyone else had a pet cause a callback?

That "tiny bite marks" line got me. I once spent an hour tracing a noise issue only to find a hamster had filled a wall plate with bedding and food stash. Felt like a real genius that day.

Honestly that sounds like a win to me! At least you found the problem, I've had those noises just vanish forever and it drives me nuts.

Got to disagree with you there, @thomas.mark. Finding the problem is only a win if you can actually fix it. I once traced a rattle to a broken clip inside a door panel, but the part was discontinued. So I just had to live with knowing exactly what was wrong, which was way more annoying than a mystery noise.
