Found a local place that recycles old coax cables properly

I was cleaning out the truck and had a pile of old cables from jobs. Instead of trashing them, I looked up recycling options. Turns out there's a spot in town that takes them and strips the copper and plastic separately. It's a bit of extra work, but it feels good to not just dump it all. Maybe others here have similar spots?

Did they charge you to drop off the cables? I had to call around a few places before I found one that takes coax without a fee. Some scrap yards will take it but they often want you to strip it first. It's worth the effort to keep that copper out of the landfill. I keep a bin in my van now for old cables and drop it off every few months. It makes you feel better about the job knowing you're not just creating waste.

Seriously, @sagemurphy, how many places did you find that actually charge a fee? It's crazy they would charge for taking something they can make money from. I guess they just don't want the hassle of small amounts.

Remember my friend Maya tried to recycle a box of old cables last month, @karen_martin59. She had a mix of HDMI and ethernet cables and called three places. Two wanted a five dollar drop-off fee per bag, which felt wild to her. She finally found that free drop-off at the library's monthly e-waste drive, but it's only the first Tuesday. Makes you realize how hard they make it to do the right thing sometimes.
