Vent: chose a cheaper grinder over the brand my mentor swore by and now I'm second-guessing it
I went with the $400 one instead of the $850 model he's used for 15 years, and the plate wobble showed up after about 3 weeks of steady grind. Is there a way to true it up at home, or am I stuck sending it off?
That "plate wobble showed up after about 3 weeks" part is rough, but it's also super common with the cheaper grinders. I watched a video a while back where a guy took his apart and found the burr carrier wasn't seated right from the factory, so the whole thing walked loose over time. He fixed it by pulling the plate, cleaning off any burrs or grit, and reseating it with a feeler gauge to check the gap. If yours has shims, you might be able to true it up at home, but if the shaft itself is bent, home fixes won't hold. Worth checking before you pay to ship it off.
