Swapped my old steel for ceramic on the band saw, huge difference
Used to fight with a dull blade for years at my shop in Akron, always burning the fat and tearing the sinew. Finally switched to a ceramic blade about 4 months ago and it cuts through a pork belly like butter, no more double passes. The $80 cost stung at first but I've saved time on every single breakdown since. Anyone else made the jump and never looked back?
Funny how that works with everything, not just blades. We hang onto the cheap thing way past the point where it's costing us, because the price tag on the new one is right in your face and the slow bleed of the old one isn't. At the shop you just eat the double passes and think that's the job. Same deal with a dull knife in the kitchen, or running tires down to nothing. The upgrade always feels dumb right up until the moment it doesn't. Four months in and you're still doing the math on it, that says plenty.
