So I finally got around to using a leather strop regularly

Total game changer for my edge maintenance. My knives stay sharper way longer now and I barely touch the stone. Wish I'd done this years ago.

My buddy was the same way for the longest time, just beating his good knife on a stone every few months. He saw me using a strop and called it a silly extra step. Then he tried to slice a tomato and basically just crushed it. He finally borrowed my strop in a quiet sort of defeat, did a few passes, and the thing cleaned up that tomato like it was nothing. He bought his own that same night and now acts like he invented the idea.

I have about eight knives in my kitchen drawer that basically became butter spreaders because I was too lazy to get a strop. My whole sharpening routine was just grinding them down on a stone every six months out of pure desperation. Now I feel like a fool for all those years spent wrestling with dull blades when a few quick passes on leather would have fixed it. I guess my knives needed to practically turn into spoons before I looked into proper maintenance.

The butter spreader thing got me lol, @thomasmitchell. It's like we all need to hit rock bottom with our knives before we admit we need help. I can picture you desperately grinding away every six months, swearing at tomatoes like they're personal enemies. Now you're probably stropping like a pro and acting like you knew it all along, just like jordanhill's buddy. Honestly, it's a universal kitchen drama at this point lmao.
