Chose between a bandsaw and a grinder for breaking down my first whole hog, wish I'd picked the other one
Picked up a whole 180 lb hog from a farm outside Des Moines last month and had to decide between using my old 1 HP bandsaw or borrowing a buddy's grinder to break it down. I went with the bandsaw since it was already in the shop and honestly it was a mess, the blade wandered through the ribs and I lost a good chunk of the loin to uneven cuts. Should've just borrowed the grinder, would've been way cleaner on the primal cuts. Anyone else regret their first big breakdown tool choice?
I always figured a bandsaw was the way to go for breaking down big game, cleaner cuts and all that. Then I helped a buddy do his hog with a grinder and man, that thing just powered through the joints way easier. Now I get why you'd wish you'd gone that route.
