TIL you should grease the seatpost, not just tighten the clamp harder
A customer brought in a 2019 Trek Marlin last Thursday because his seat kept slipping on every ride, and he had already cranked the quick release so tight the lever bent. When I pulled the post out, it was dry as a bone and scratched all to hell, and that alloy post had basically welded itself into the steel frame. I greased it up, torqued the clamp to spec, and it has held solid for two rides now. People think slipping means tighten more, but nine times out of ten the post just needs a thin coat of grease or carbon paste depending on the material. What brand of assembly paste are you all running on carbon posts these days?
Man, I used to be that guy cranking the clamp down until I stripped the bolt on my old hardtail. Finally read up on it and felt like an idiot, a little grease fixed the slip in like two minutes. Glad the customer's bike is holding up now.
