That guy who tried to return a chain he clearly snapped himself
A dude walked into my shop last Tuesday holding a busted KMC chain, swearing it broke on its own after only 200 miles. I showed him the twisted link and the tool marks where he'd pried it apart with pliers, and he just stared at me like I was the jerk. How do you handle people who insist their gear failed when it's obvious they messed it up?

Funny how people break things and then blame the world instead of just owning it.

Funny how people break things and then blame the world" - right? @wright.lisa nailed it. I figure some folks just can't handle the idea they messed up, so they'd rather pretend the universe is out to get them than admit they used pliers on a chain.

You ever had someone try to return something with a pry bar mark on it? I worked returns at a hardware store for two years. I started asking people to show me exactly what happened. Made them walk me through it step by step. Most of them folded quick once they had to explain the tool marks or twisted metal themselves. The ones who didn't I'd offer to check the security footage with them. That shut it down every time. People hate being called out but they hate being embarrassed in front of a camera even more.
