Spent 15 years greasing pedal threads before a retired mechanic at a swap meet told me I was just trapping dirt
He pointed to my worn-out crank arms and said all that extra grease just holds grit against the aluminum, so now I just put a tiny dab on the spindle and nothing on the threads, anyone else learn a basic thing way too late?

Why do we learn the hard way that less is more with everything?

Because my closet is now a museum of things I bought thinking more was more...

Jump right into that lesson kicking and screaming is how most of us learn it. @the_tara's closet museum is exactly the kind of exhibit I'd visit - and probably buy a ticket for the gift shop. I swear my garage is a monument to "well that seemed like a good idea at the time" decisions. Less really is more, but my bank account didn't get that memo until after the third storage unit.
