Rant: A customer insisted his creaky bottom bracket just needed grease

He brought in his gravel bike from a ride near Boulder, convinced the noise was from a dry spindle. After pulling the cranks, I found the shell threads were actually stripped from a bad install, probably six months back. How do you guys explain a repair that's way bigger than what the customer expected?

Honestly that's just part of the job sometimes. You gotta show them the damage and explain why a simple fix won't work. Tbh most people get it once they see the stripped threads.

oh totally @angela_grant, i started taking a picture of the stripped part on my phone before even explaining. people just nod along until they see the actual photo, then it clicks right away.

Took a photo of a stripped screw once and the customer asked if it was modern art.
