Question about the new bike lane setup in downtown Portland
I was there last week and saw they put in those concrete curb separators every 50 feet... I know a lot of people think they're safer, but they make it a real pain to get a service van in for a roadside repair. Had a call for a flat on a cargo bike and had to park two blocks away and walk all the tools over. Has anyone else had to deal with this kind of access issue?

Ever think they should add those little curb cutouts for work vehicles every so often? Seems like a simple fix that would keep the lane safe but not block access.

Consider how those cutouts would affect street sweeping and snow plows.

Actually think those cutouts would cause more problems than they solve. Snow plows would catch the edges and tear up the curb, and street sweepers would miss all the debris pushed into those little gaps. You'd just be moving the blockage problem a few feet down the road.
