Paid $80 for a Park Tool chain whip and it paid off in one job

I do my own maintenance to save money, but I always cheaped out on tools. Last month I had a cassette that was seized on pretty bad. Broke two generic chain whips trying to get it off. Finally bought the Park Tool SR-2 for $80 from my local shop. Got the cassette off in about two minutes without any slipping. Should have just bought the real thing from the start instead of wasting money on the cheap ones. Anyone else had cheap tools break at the worst time?

Oh, the classic "buy cheap, buy twice" lesson we all seem to learn the hard way. Sounds like those generic chain whips were made of tin foil and good intentions. I'd say you got your money's worth the minute that cassette popped loose without a fight.

Did you ever think generic tools were just as good? I used to think that way too, but after snapping a cheap chain tool on a tight link, I won't touch the no-name stuff anymore.

Tin foil chain whip? You actually tried that on a cassette?
