One customer's strange squeak turned out to be something I never checked

About two months ago a guy rolls in with a road bike making this awful squeak every pedal stroke. I checked the bottom bracket, pedals, chain, even the seat post. Nothing. After 20 minutes I asked him if he'd changed anything recently. He said he put on new cleats the day before. Turns out the little rubber inserts in his new cleats were rubbing against the pedal body. Took him 10 seconds to fix once we looked. Has anyone else had a mystery noise that ended up being a small add-on part, not the main drivetrain?

Same thing with new shoe insoles once. Drove me nuts for an hour.
