Just hit 500 bottom bracket overhauls and realized I’ve been greasing the wrong spot this whole time
Found out after number 500 that I should have been greasing the threads on the non-drive side cup, not just the bearings, and now I’m wondering how many creaks I could have saved customers from.

Ha, oof. Though a lot of the time it's actually the drive side cup that causes the creak, so you might have been closer than you thought.

Right, Feliz_lane99 is absolutely spot on about the drive side cup. That's the one that always seems to sneak in the creak even after you've checked everything else. It's almost like the universe decided the non-drive side is the decoy and the drive side is the real culprit. Guess we're all just getting punked by the same part over and over. Still, it's a good reminder to never trust your first guess on a bike noise. You'd think after 500 of these things I'd have a sixth sense for it.

500 bottom bracket overhauls and you just now figured this out? That's like a chef making 500 omelets before realizing eggs go in the pan, not the trash. Bet your customers have been walking around sounding like an old wooden ship for years and nobody said a word. At least now you can fix them all in one go - just tell everyone to bring their bikes back for the "creak correction special." Could start a whole new revenue stream off your own mistake, honestly.
