I spent $120 on a Park Tool bleed kit and still had to warranty two Shimano levers last season
I know everyone here swears by the fancy bleed kits, but I'm gonna say it: for Shimano mineral oil brakes, the cheap $30 cup and syringe setup has worked just as well for me. Last year at my shop in Tucson, I went through three lever warranties on customer bikes, and every single one was from a guy who thought more pressure during the bleed meant a better result. The issue wasn't the tool, it was the method. You can't force fluid past a closed port no matter how nice your kit is. I still use the Park kit for SRAM DOT brakes because that stuff is nasty, but for mineral oil I'm back to the basic setup. Anyone else find that the expensive kits are mostly marketing for the home mech crowd?
Been wrenching on Shimano for years and honestly the cheap cup has always done the job for me too, but I gotta push back a little on the "marketing" part. The nicer kits do seal better and the fittings last longer, especially if you're bleeding the same bike twice a year. Sounds like the real problem was those guys just yanking the syringe way too hard, which is on them, not the tool.
