Customer told me my chain was too tight and I brushed him off for weeks
Guy comes in with a Jamis last month, says his drivetrain sounds like grinding coffee. I figure it's a worn cassette, replace it, still noisy. He comes back three days later and says 'kid, check your chain tension again.' I was running it with basically zero sag because I was trying to avoid chain slap. Eased it up about a quarter inch of play and the noise vanished. Now I always double check tension on singlespeeds even if I think I'm right. Any of you guys have a simple fix you ignored for way too long?

Huh, that reminds me of something completely different. Sometimes the simplest things are the easiest to overlook, man.

Jessica nailed it. Sometimes you get so caught up in the more complicated fixes you totally forget to check the dead simple stuff first. On my old bike I wasted a whole afternoon chasing a creak that turned out to be just a dry pedal spindle not the whole bottom bracket I was about to replace.
