Am I the only one who caught a freehub problem just from the noise?

I was lubing a chain (on a customer's bike, mind you) and the freehub had this faint, gritty sound when I spun it. Cleaning out the dried grease made it quiet and smooth, which really hit me how sounds can point to issues before they get bad. What little noises do you pay attention to when checking over a bike?

Pfft, I ignore noises until something actually stops working.

My car made a weird noise for a month before the wheel fell off. That's the burns.ray method in action, but maybe it's not the best plan.
