Went to a local credit union and noticed something weird about their payment terminals

I was at Visions Federal Credit Union in Scranton last Tuesday to deposit a check. Every teller had those old school PIN pads with the black and white screens. The kind that look 15 years old. But the lobby had a brand new ITM machine that cost probably $50k. I asked the branch manager about it. She said the teller terminals work fine so they keep them. But customers are replacing phones every 2 years. Just seems like banks and credit unions are way behind on the physical payment experience. Makes me wonder how long till people start complaining about the clunky hardware at their local branch. Has anyone else noticed outdated payment gear at your bank?

Heard from my buddy Mike who banks at a small credit union near Allentown. He said he went to deposit a check last month and the teller was using one of those old school PIN pads that has the screen all scratched up and the numbers are barely readable. Like, you could see the green text flickering on the black screen. Meanwhile the credit union just finished renovating their entire lobby with fancy furniture and a coffee bar. He asked the manager about it and she just shrugged and said they'll upgrade the terminals when they have to. I feel like that's the problem right there. Banks just don't care about the customer facing hardware because it still technically works. But people are used to their phones with bright screens and fast responses.
