Unpopular opinion: that 'urgent' email from your bank about a locked account is a trick 9 times out of 10
Got a text at 7am from 'Chase' saying my account was locked and to click a link, and the number was a 617 area code, not the real short code they use. I called the actual number on my card instead and waited 20 minutes on hold just to hear there was no lock at all. If you ever get one of these, hang up and dial the number on the back of your card, never the one they give you. Did anyone else get hit with a batch of these this week or is it just the Boston area?
Eh, 9 times out of 10 feels like a stretch. Most of these are fake for sure, but banks do send real texts sometimes when they spot weird charges, and those short codes get spoofed all the time anyway so a 617 number alone doesn't prove much. The call the number on your card move is solid though, that part is always the safe play. Got a couple of these last month here in Ohio, seemed like they came in waves.
