Tried skipping my bank's overdraft alerts for a month to save on text fees

Ended up with a $34 overdraft from a $3 coffee and had to call support to waive it, has anyone else found a better way to handle those alert costs?

Honestly, I get why you tried to skip those alerts, but I think you're looking at this all wrong. The $34 overdraft fee from a $3 coffee is exactly why those alerts exist in the first place. If you just let them run, you would have seen the warning and maybe used a different card or put the coffee back. Calling support to waive it is a bandaid, not a fix. The real problem is that you're blaming the notification cost instead of the fact that you had no idea what was in your account. Those alerts are like a cheap insurance policy - they cost pennies compared to the fees they can save you from. So yeah, pay the text fees, it's way cheaper than a $34 mistake.

You're basically saying people should pay extra just in case they're bad at managing money, which is exactly what the banks want you to think. Those alert fees add up to way more than the occasional overdraft if you actually keep track of your balance the old fashioned way.

Isn't that how every 'cheap' fix ends up costing more?
