Tried an envelope budgeting method and saved $340 in 3 months

I started using cash envelopes for groceries and eating out back in February after a teller at my local credit union mentioned it. It felt old fashioned at first but I actually spent $340 less than usual just by seeing the money leave my hand. Has anyone else had luck with any old school budgeting tricks?

Sorry you had that trouble, @emma_clark. I nearly lost mine a couple times too, had to tape them inside a notebook. It's a pain but the savings made it worthwhile for me.

My friend Sarah did the cash envelope thing and she kept losing them too. She put one in her coat pocket and it went through the wash, turned into a soggy mess of twenties and receipts. She had to lay everything out on the kitchen counter to dry and try to piece it back together. Now she keeps them in a little zipper pouch clipped to the inside of her purse. Still says the system works better than anything else she's tried.
