PSA: A teller at my branch in Boise mentioned they've seen a 30% drop in cash deposits this quarter.

She said most folks under 40 just use their phone to snap a picture of a check now, which got me wondering if anyone else's bank is pushing the mobile stuff this hard over coming inside.

Banks have to pay for those nice buildings and teller salaries somehow, right? If almost nobody is coming in to deposit checks, it makes sense they'd want to move the few who do to the cheaper option. Calling it a fee for service instead of a penalty for not using the app is just smart business. They're probably just trying to stay open without raising fees for everyone across the board.

Charging a fee to see a human teller is just wild (and feels pretty intentional).

My bank in Phoenix started charging a fee for using a human teller for basic deposits. Makes you wonder if the drop is by accident or on purpose.
