Pro tip: I set up a new business checking account with a $500 bonus offer
I opened a new account online last month to get the cash bonus, which required 10 debit card purchases in 60 days. I made the purchases, but the bonus never showed up in my account... I called customer service and they said two of my transactions were coded as 'financial services' and didn't count. I learned to always check the merchant category codes on the fine print for these offers. Has anyone else had a bonus promo fail because of weird transaction coding?

Weird coding on those two purchases? That's on the bank, not you. Why make an offer if they're gonna play games with the categories?

My Chase card did that last month with a hardware store. I called and they fixed the coding in two days. Sometimes you just have to push them on it.
