My coworker told me to always call the bank before a big transfer, and it saved me from a huge headache yesterday.
I was about to send $2,300 for a used car deposit, but he said to call first, and the fraud department flagged it because my card was used in a different state last week, which I didn't even know about.

Wait, you have to call the bank yourself before big transfers? I always figured they'd just block it automatically if something looked weird... but I guess they can't read your mind to know you're actually buying a car. That's a really smart tip, I'm gonna start doing that.

Yeah, the "they can't read your mind" part is so true. It gets even trickier if you're sending money to a person, not a business, like for a private sale. The bank's system might see that as a huge red flag, even though it's totally legit. I learned the hard way when a payment for a used camper got held up for days. Calling ahead saves you from that awkward "my money's stuck" call to the seller.
