Just realized I've been splitting bills wrong for 10 years

I always split dinner tabs by dividing evenly, even when someone ordered a $40 steak and I got a $12 salad. It hit me last month at a Denny's in Tucson when my buddy pointed out I paid $18 extra for his meal three times in a row. He laughed and said 'dude, just ask for separate checks like a normal person.' I felt like an idiot but now I do it every time. Anyone else been overpaying for years without noticing?

Oh DUDE, that stings. I never thought about it that hard but you are basically subsidizing their date night. Fair split or itemized, pick a lane and save your wallet.
