Just learned that contactless payments have a $50 limit in some countries and I had no idea
Was reading a thread on some finance blog last night and found out that places like Canada and the UK cap contactless transactions at around $50 or the equivalent. So if you try to tap your card for a $60 grocery run, it forces you to insert the chip or use cash. I always thought contactless was just unlimited until the bank decides otherwise. Has anyone else run into this traveling or living abroad?

Wait, so the bank doesn't even get a say? I always figured it was up to them to decide the limit. Did your post say Canada has that too?

Wait, don't you WANT the bank to have a say? They're the ones holding the money, it's kinda their job to guard it. If they can decide when to block a big tap, seems like they'd be better at catching actual fraud than some random rule.

Yeah totally, hit that wall in London trying to tap for a £55 dinner and felt like an idiot.
