Hit $10k in credit card rewards last year and it messed with my head

I've been churning cards for about 5 years now, but last year I finally crossed the $10k mark in cash back and travel points. That's real money sitting there from just paying bills I already had to pay. Anyone else tracking their annual rewards total and surprised by how fast it adds up?

Last year I hit $8,700 in rewards and that's when I noticed I started checking my balance like three times a week. My wife caught me adding up hotel points in my head one night and she just laughed and said we need to find a better hobby. It's wild how something like a $200 cash back feels like a bonus but when you stack it all up December hits and you realize you basically paid for Christmas and a vacation. I'm not complaining but it does mess with your head a little.

lol @hall.nina you're basically running a second job just tracking points.

Those end of year totals really sneak up on you though, $8,700 is serious money you wouldn't have had otherwise. Tracking three times a week sounds like a lot until you realize people check their bank app five times a day for way less excitement. At least you're getting paid for the obsession instead of just doom scrolling stock prices.
