Vent: That "anime is for kids" take from a coworker really got me

Overheard my shop's receptionist telling a client that anime is just cartoons for kids, while I was in the back drying a doodle. She said it like it was a fact, and the client nodded along. Has anyone else had to shut down that argument mid-groom or just walked away to avoid the headache?

Just walk away honestly. I've learned the hard way that arguing with someone mid-groom (wet hands, dog on the table, client watching) never ends well. If you really want to shut it down, just say something like "Actually, anime covers a ton of genres for all ages. My 45 year old dad got me into Grave of the Fireflies, definitely not a kids movie." Then go back to your doodle and let them sit with that. Most people don't realize stuff like Akira or Monster exists until someone normal brings it up casual like that.

And it's not just anime, I've noticed this pattern everywhere. Like someone will say "comic books are for kids" and you have to casually drop that Maus or Persepolis exists, or how Watchmen literally won a Hugo award. People have these weird mental boxes for things they don't know much about, and just one normal person saying "actually I really like that thing" can totally crack it open. It's wild how much power just being a chill, casual fan has in changing someone's whole perspective.

Makes you realize how one person just liking something can totally flip someone's whole view on it.
