My anime watchlist got corrupted and I lost 3 weeks of tracking

Happened last Tuesday. My MAL app crashed during a sync and wiped out everything I had marked as watching. I had notes on episode timestamps for a few seasonal shows like Dandadan and Blue Box. Had to manually re-add 14 shows from memory. Anyone else lose their progress in a bad update?

Why does nobody talk about how long it takes to find that one specific anime opening song?

I spent three whole evenings scrolling through YouTube and forum posts trying to track down the opening for a mid-2000s mecha show I barely remembered. Turns out the show was "Soukou no Strain" and the opening "Hikari no Synchronizer" was only on some obscure music site from 2006. Has anyone else wasted hours hunting down a song that just vanished from streaming?

Unpopular opinion: the "skip opening" crowd is missing half the show

My buddy told me to always skip the OP and ED to save time, so I did for like 6 months straight. Then I watched Jujutsu Kaisen S2 and realized the visuals literally change to match the arc, and I'd been missing those details the whole time. Has anyone else had a friend give anime advice that turned out to be totally backwards?

Spent $150 on a Crunchyroll sub for a year and it actually saved me from impulse buys

I kept buying random blu-rays every month because I wanted to watch stuff right away. Finally caved and got the annual mega fan plan for $150 back in March. Now I just stream everything and only buy physical copies of shows I actually rewatch. Has anyone else noticed their wallet getting lighter after switching to streaming only?

Three back to back clients cancelled on me this Tuesday and I'm honestly losing it

I had three houses scheduled for Tuesday and all of them called off within an hour of each other, one saying they 'forgot' they had a plumber coming. That's a solid $240 I was counting on for the week just gone in a single afternoon. Anyone else have their whole day fall apart like that for no real reason?

Bought the complete set of a 90s anime on DVD for $150

I found someone selling the whole series of a show I watched as a kid on Craigslist. Paid $150 cash for all 26 discs, which felt like a steal compared to streaming rights that keep disappearing. Turns out half the discs were scratched beyond repair and the seller blocked me. Did anyone else get burned on old physical media or did you have better luck?

Thought the whole 'Dub vs Sub' debate was just elitist gatekeeping until I tried dubbing for a seasonal show

Was forced to watch the first 3 episodes of the new Gundam series dubbed because my buddy's kid can't read subs fast enough and the pacing felt way more natural for action scenes than I expected, has anyone else flipped sides after giving dubs a real shot?

Took me 6 hours to fix a subtitle sync issue on one episode

Was trying to watch an old subbed release of Gundam Wing and the audio kept drifting after 10 minutes. Spent an entire evening remuxing the file with different delays until I realized my media player had a weird audio offset setting enabled by default. Has anyone else had a simple setting screw up their whole watch session?

The animation quality in Season 3 of that shonen show fell off a cliff

I just watched the first episode of Season 3 and compared it to Season 2 from two years ago. The fight scenes went from fluid motion to mostly still frames with speed lines, and I counted at least four reused shots in one five-minute sequence. Anyone else notice the studio switch or am I just being picky?

Binged Attack on Titan subbed vs dubbed and the difference was huge

I watched the first season dubbed a few years back and thought it was okay, but after switching to subbed for season 2 last month, the voice acting just hit way harder for me. Eren's screams in Japanese had way more emotion, and the pacing felt tighter without the lip flaps being off. Anybody else find that one version completely changes how you see the show?

Was binging an old series on Crunchyroll and the subs went out for 12 minutes

I was watching episode 7 of an 80s OVA on my laptop, and the subtitle track just vanished during a key fight scene. Had to scramble through three forum threads to find a standalone sub file that actually synced up. Anyone else keep backup subs for older shows just in case?

Stuck between subbed or dubbed for Attack on Titan

I finally got around to starting Attack on Titan last week and I hit that wall where I had to pick a version. Subbed feels more real with the original voices but I gotta keep my eyes glued to the screen and I miss stuff when I look away. Dubbed lets me fold laundry or eat while watching but some of the English voices just don't hit right especially Eren's screams. I went with subbed for the first 15 episodes and honestly I'm second guessing myself now because the action moves so fast I can't read fast enough. Did anyone else struggle with this choice or am I just overthinking a cartoon? What version did you settle on?

That one guy on Reddit who changed my mind about subbed anime

I used to be all about dubbed versions because I could multitask while watching. Then a user named Ryoji42 in a thread about Dragon Ball Super explained how the Japanese voice actors put in way more emotional nuance. He pointed out a scene at episode 66 where Goku's scream sounded completely different between versions. Now I can't go back to dubs for serious shows.

Appreciation post: That fact about Goku's power level in early Dragon Ball Z blew my mind

I was rewatching DBZ on Crunchyroll last night and checked the wiki on my phone. Turns out Goku's power level was only around 8,000 when he fought Vegeta, but by the Namek arc it jumped to 90,000 after training. I never realized the gap was that huge in just a few episodes. Did any other fact from an old anime catch you off guard like this?

Can we talk about the pacing in One Piece's Wano arc?

I'm rewatching the Wano arc right now and I'm stuck on episode 982. The anime drags out every single fight with reaction shots and flashbacks. My buddy says the slow pace builds tension and makes the big moments hit harder. I think it just kills the momentum and makes me skip ahead. I timed it once - a single clash between Luffy and Kaido took like 4 minutes of screen time for 2 seconds of action. Which side are you on: do the slow stretches make the payoff better or are they just filler?

Just realized I've been holding my clay sculpting tool backward for 7 years

I was watching a YouTube tutorial on facial proportions last night when the guy casually mentioned holding the loop tool with the curve facing down. I've had mine flipped the whole time. All those little divots and uneven eye sockets make sense now. Has anyone else had a similar moment where you found out you were doing a basic technique completely ass-backwards?

At a con panel last month someone said 'skip the filler arcs' and it changed how I rewatch stuff

I was at Anime Expo in LA during a Q&A and the speaker mentioned skipping entire filler arcs for a cleaner experience. I tried it on Bleach last week and now I wonder if I missed anything important or if they were right all along-have you ever skipped filler and regretted it later?

TIL that one guy at the anime convention actually changed how I watch dubs

Was waiting in line for a panel at Anime Expo last year and this guy behind me started talking about how he always watches subs because dubs 'ruin the emotion'. I told him I mostly watch dubs cause I like to look at the animation without reading. He just looked at me and said 'have you ever watched one where the voice actor actually matches the character's breathing?' Then he named a specific scene from Cowboy Bebop where the dub actor pauses at the exact same moments as the character's chest movement. I went home and checked it and he was right. Made me realize some people just hate on dubs without actually paying attention. Has anyone else had a random convo like that change how you watch something?

Question about sub vs dub watching: Did I miss the real experience by switching too early?

I grew up watching Dragon Ball Z on Toonami with the original english dub (you know, the one with the Bruce Faulconer music). A few years ago I switched to subbed for Attack on Titan and thought it was way better, more emotional. But now I'm rewatching some older shows like Cowboy Bebop and I wonder if I'm losing something by not just sticking with one approach. Anyone else flip between sub and dub and feel like you're missing part of the show either way?

Hit episode 1,000 on my Crunchyroll queue and it messed with my head

I always thought I was a casual anime watcher, you know, just a few shows here and there. But last week I hit episode 1,000 logged in my profile (which I never even looked at before) and it made me realize I've spent way more time on this than I thought. The anime convention in Chicago back in 2019 changed when I watch subs now

I was in a panel room with about 200 people and the translator kept pausing to explain jokes that didn't land in English. Ever since then I just watch subbed versions first to get the original timing. Has anyone else had a live event mess with how they watch shows?

My buddy said watch Bakemonogatari at 1.5x speed and I laughed at him

He told me last week that the dialogue scenes drag so bad you lose nothing by speeding them up. I tried it on episode 3 and he was completely right, the subs still read fine and the pacing actually felt better. Anyone else got a weird viewing trick that actually works?

That time I realized I was skipping the filler episode rule on purpose

I've been watching One Piece for about 5 years now and always thought I was being smart by skipping every single filler arc. Last month my buddy asked me how I knew the G-8 arc was filler and I said 'because it's not in the manga.' Then he pointed out that arc is actually one of the most loved by fans because of the comedy and character moments. I spent the whole weekend watching it and felt like an idiot for missing out on 10+ episodes of gold. Has anyone else skipped filler only to find out later it was actually worth watching?
