Took me 3 weekends to figure out why my old anime DVDs were skipping
My original Trigun box set from like 2002 started having these little freezes and audio glitches. First weekend I thought it was the player so I cleaned the lens. Nope. Second weekend I tried different HDMI cables and even an old composite hookup. Still skipping. Third weekend I finally noticed the discs had this haze on them, not scratches. Some kind of residue. Polished them with a microfiber cloth and a tiny bit of water. Works perfect now. Has anyone else run into that weird film on older discs?

Stare at that haze for another two weekends and you could've started a whole new hobby of disc restoration. I mean, good on you for figuring it out, but imagine the satisfaction of buying a whole new player just to find out it was a soap scum situation. Next time just try licking one of the discs, see if that clears things up faster.
