That one guy on Reddit who changed my mind about subbed anime

I used to be all about dubbed versions because I could multitask while watching. Then a user named Ryoji42 in a thread about Dragon Ball Super explained how the Japanese voice actors put in way more emotional nuance. He pointed out a scene at episode 66 where Goku's scream sounded completely different between versions. Now I can't go back to dubs for serious shows.

Right, so did you ever go back and compare that specific scene yourself after reading his breakdown? That's what gets me, because sometimes you can read something and be like "okay, sure" but then you actually sit down and watch it and the difference is HUGE. I bet the dub version just sounds like a generic angry guy, but the Japanese one has that whole history of the character behind it, you know? It makes me wonder how many other shows I've been missing out on because I was just half-watching them.

Oh, see I actually ended up hating the Japanese version after going back. It was too theatrical and overdone for my taste, the dub felt more natural and restrained.
