Subbed beats dubbed except for one show, here's my line in the sand

I've watched 200+ anime with subs and I'll defend that stance all day, but Cowboy Bebop is the one exception I'll never budge on. The English cast just fits the 1998 jazz-noir vibe so perfectly, Spike's voice alone carries the whole thing. Anyone else got a single show where they break their own sub rule, or am I just weird about this one?

Found the same thing with Baccano, the dub just clicks because the whole show is set in 1930s America and the accents make the world feel real. I usually hate dubs for the same reasons you do, but that one and Bebop are the only two I can rewatch in English without cringing. Maybe it's a vibe thing, but when the setting is so western, the original Japanese audio almost feels off to me.

But here's the thing nobody brings up: Baccano's dub works because the actors had to match the fast, overlapping dialogue from the novel, and that chaotic energy actually sounds more natural in English. It's like the recording booth became a jazz club itself, everyone stepping on each other's lines but somehow making it swing. That's the one case where the dub isn't just a translation, it's a performance of the setting's actual rhythm.
