Rewatching Yu Yu Hakusho at 35 hit different after a friend called it out

Last week my buddy from high school said the reason it still holds up isn't the fights, it's how Yusuke just sits with his anger instead of fixing it in one episode. I used to skip the slower arcs when I was 15, now I'm noticing those quiet moments with Kuwabara and the older cast members actually carry the whole show. Does anyone else find themselves revisiting a show you thought you knew and suddenly seeing a whole different story the second time around?

Oh man, you just made me realize I've been lying to myself about why I liked this show for years... I thought it was all about the dark tournament but no, it's literally Yusuke sitting on a curb being grumpy that hits me in the gut now. My 35 year old self is way more invested in Genkai's whole "you're gonna die alone if you keep this up" energy than I ever was as a kid. Guess that's what happens when you're no longer the teen and you start relating to the adults failing at life instead...
