Rant: I figured out why anime filler chats always blow up
In my experience, watching anime forum threads fall apart over filler taught me a lot. Your mileage may vary, but I got good at seeing when fans miss the point. Take this with a grain of salt, but I believe filler can add depth if we let it. A recent Flame of Recca thread proved how toxic these talks get. Now I focus on what each episode brings to the table.

Actually filler almost always wrecks a show's flow and makes people drop it. Naruto's endless boat arc or Bleach's Bount stuff added nothing but boredom. It's padding made by different writers who don't get the main story. Saying it adds depth feels like coping with wasted time. Good shows stand on their canon material alone.

Filler arcs do tend to drag on sometimes. I read somewhere that studios add them to let the source material build up. That makes sense, but it doesn't stop them from killing the pace. Waiting week after week for canon content is a real pain. A friend once said the best filler still feels like a detour you didn't ask for.

Well actually, some filler arcs add value without breaking the show's flow.
