Met a guy at the convention who changed my mind on a show I hated

I was at Anime Expo last year, complaining about the ending of 'Attack on Titan' to my friend in a food court line. This older guy behind us just said, 'You know, I felt the same way until I watched it with my daughter.' He explained how seeing her cry at a certain scene made him see the whole theme of the cycle of hate differently. It wasn't about the plot holes for him anymore, it was about what the story made people feel. I still don't love the ending, but I get it now. Has a chat with a stranger ever flipped your view on an anime?

Remember that time at a con where a cosplayer explained the whole plot of Neon Genesis Evangelion using only french fry packets? @the_mia might call that too deep, but honestly, it made the weird ending click for me in a way reading online never did. Sometimes you just need a weird visual and a patient stranger. Ever had a moment like that?

Wait, you found a guy at a convention who actually listened? That's the real shocker here. Most people just talk louder over you. His point about his kid is pretty solid though.

People get way too deep about cartoons sometimes. It's a show about giant naked people eating folks, not a life changing event. Sure, a kid crying is sad, but that doesn't fix a bad story. Maybe the guy just felt awkward because his daughter was there and he had to say something nice.
