Just learned 80% of the top 50 anime on MAL have source material completed

I was digging through MyAnimeList stats last night and found out that most of the highest rated shows are finished adaptations, not original stories. Does that mean we should stick to completed manga before starting a new series?

MAL's top list is full of original shows like Cowboy Bebop and Code Geass that hit 9/10 without a source.

Isn't it crazy how those original shows just hit different? I totally feel you @the_joel, especially with Cowboy Bebop - that show has this raw, unpolished energy you can't get from adapted stuff. It's like the writers had total freedom without worrying about sticking to a source.

is it just me or does admitting my top 3 are all original shows make me feel like a total poser? @williams.kim you're totally right about that raw energy though - maybe i should start writing my own anime instead of just watching them
